KNIGHTS  CHALLENGE  SCHOOLS  TOURNAMENTS  IN CASTLES

In  the County of Charente, for the last couple of years, we have launched   a students’ tournament of Knights-Challenge between 4  secondary schools that are located within a short distance  from one another, and this has proved to be  a success, each time !

First of all, pupils learn how to play the game by practising with their peers within their school, either during lunch breaks or at other free periods, sometime assisted by a member of the staff  or  an external facilitator. A team of 4 to 8  players  is then selected  among all volunteers to defend the colours of their school on the day of the challenge which  takes place in a local castle.

A castle  is the perfect place to arrange such a friendly competition between the 4 schools as it is both a neutral and prestigious  location to host the young « school knights » !
It is also a social  event for the schools  and for the castle as pupils of different   schools in the city or the neighbouring district  meet on an afternoon party during which they can exchange words while soft drinks and cakes are provided by either the local council or the castle management.

And  what about holding the same in your area ?

If you are a local councillor, a school headmaster  or a castle event manager and are seduced by  this new formula of school challenge, do not hesitate to get in touch with our association  on knightschallengegame@gmail.com   ;  we will tell you how this can be organised.

KNIGHTS-CHALLENGE  NOW IN OXFORD AND CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITIES

Our association “ Les Amis du Jeu de Knights 17” introduced the game Knights-Challenge to Oxford and Cambridge universities with the help of their respective Unions and Board games Societies. The students of both universities practiced and enjoyed playing our board game in April 2023. Our members, who were warmly welcomed by the Presidents of these Societies, were there  to  explain the rules  and share a game session with the students.
Our team was invited to visit the old Queen’s College grounds at Cambridge and the historic refectory at Oxford. Our association would like to arrange  an inter universities tournament in  an English medieval castle. Having had the opportunity to practice Knights-Challenge, Oxford and Cambridge students would be invited to join.

This ambitious proposal is a friendly get-together time in an historic place.

KNIGHTS-CHALLENGE PLAYED IN A CASTLE DUNGEON !

On 7th June 2023 took place at Chalais Castle (South Charente) the first time tournament of the Knights-Challenge game between 4 secondary schools of Southern Charente.
For achieving that, two months before, every week, game practising sittings were arranged within each school during lunch breaks.
So, on the tournament day, the castle gateway bridge was lowered to allow 32 pupils, boys and girls, to enter the castle and walk up the dungeon stairs to stand round the 4 game tables set with Knights-Challenge board games.
A draw took place to tell each player where to sit in order not to have players of the same school sitting at the same table. Then, there were ready to compete for three consecutive rounds. The challenge was supervised by social workers of Chalais and Montmoreau communities centres  together with castle staff and members of our association.
After the 3 rounds in between which a drink and biscuits pause was provided to the school children , the addition of points  gave the winning school. These breaks  where  a real opportunity  for the pupils of the 4 schools to mix, talk  and enjoy this social happening. At the end of the competition, all walked down to the Arms Room where a  small ceremonial  followed  to hand the cup  and medals to the winners and photos were taken in the presence of  schools and local representatives officially invited to attend.
In view of the success  achieved  and the pupils enjoyment for that social event , our association now encourages castles to welcome knights-challenge tournaments in their walls.

Headmasters, teachers,  or castles management  interested, do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
